    Introduction:

Designing 21st Century buildings that are energy efficient is guided by the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). LEED consists of a series of rating systems developed by the U.S. Green Building Council for the design, construction and operation of high performance green buildings, homes and neighborhoods. At this station, students play a “Green” Jeopardy game to learn some key criteria used to meet LEED criteria.

    Objectives:

    Students will be able to

    • define a “green” building
    • list specific criteria that are needed to meet LEED certification

    Background Information:

In order for a building to become a LEED certified building as designed by the U.S. Green Building Council, the following categories have to meet the rating system criteria: water efficiency; materials and resources; sustainable site; indoor environmental quality; energy and atmosphere.
