{Mrs. Ashley with Largest Owl Species on the Earth}
Welcome to the New Visions A.P. Environmental Science and Sustainability Program. We will be using the Withgott and Brennan text, Environment the Science Behind the Stories, 3rd edition, A.P. Edition. as our main textbook. Miller, Living in the Environment, 14th ed. will be a supplemental textbook.
We will be doing a lot of science as part of this class...water quality testing, soil analysis, learning plant and animals that make up the biotic environment at Teatown, what factors affect biodiversity, how toxins affect the living organisms, and solutions to environmental problems. We will participate with the scientists and educators at Teatown to assist in some of the work they do there. Throughout the year we will be visiting environmental scientists at their jobs to learn about what they do and work on projects with them. We will have guest speakers who are experts in their particular field of environmental science. We will also be taking field trips to supplement the work we do in class. Here is a powerpoint of a class overview: New Visions A.P. Environmental Science and Sustainability Overview of Course
As part of the ESA you will do an internship with someone working in the field of environmental science and you will do your own research throughout the year and present your findings at the end of the year. You will have the opportunity to follow your specific interests as part of this class.
Good luck for a great year!
Mrs. Ashley
